Laurie M. Joyner
Laurie M. Joyner will become St. Norbert College’s ninth president on July 12, 2023. She leaves St. Xavier university in Chicago, where she has served as president since 2017. Prior to St. Xavier, Joyner was Wittenberg University president in Ohio and served in multiple vice presidential and dean roles at Rollins College in Florida. She has also served on the faculty and held administrative positions at Loyola University New Orleans, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees in sociology from Tulane University.
Laura Rosenbury
Barnard College has announced Laura Rosenbury as its ninth president. Rosenbury, currently dean at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, will assume the new role on July 1, 2023. Prior to joining the UF Law Community, Rosenbury was a professor of law and vice dean at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. She also has served as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, and the University of Chicago Law School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from Harvard-Radcliffe College and her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School.
Sonya Christian
The California Community College Board of Governors has appointed Kern Community College District chancellor Dr. Sonya Christian, the first woman and the first person of South Asian heritage, as the next permanent chancellor to lead California Community Colleges. Christian started her career as mathematics faculty and served in several positions at Bakersfield College and Lane Community College until 2021, when she was named chancellor of the Kern Community College System. Christian earned her B.S. degree from the University of Kerala, India; her M.S. in applied mathematics from the University of Southern California; and her doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles.
