Once again, we are delighted to share the remarkable beauty and significance of preserving unique natural sites in Latin America, as recognized by UNESCO.
Emerging HSIs (institutions with 15-24.99% Hispanic enrollment) are growing in number but face challenges in awareness and support due to their lack of federal recognition and funding, unlike full HSIs. It is relevant to raise awareness about the emerging HSI designation among institutional stakeholders, as it is critical for shaping practices that support Hispanic students. Although funding is a motivator, the need for institutional commitment to serving these students and recognizing their growing presence is paramount.
College administrators are actively seeking strategies to balance freedom of speech and safety on campuses in anticipation of potentially violent political protests during the upcoming presidential election season. There is a significant debate about finding the right balance between preventing violence and preserving the rights to free expression and protest.
Riverland Community College, founded in 1996, plays a vital role in southeastern Minnesota’s workforce development and education. With campuses in Austin, Albert Lea, and Owatonna, it offers diverse programs and was recognized as an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in 2024. The college is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, supporting all students, especially its growing Hispanic population.
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at Indiana University plays a central role in interdisciplinary education and research on Latin America and the Caribbean. As part of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, CLACS promotes global engagement and offers diverse academic programs, including language courses and graduate degrees.
Manuel Martinez, the first lay person and Latino to lead the Dominican University, brings his diverse background as well as his business and academic experience to expand Dominican University’s visibility and improve student preparation for the technologically changing workforce through a strong financial aid program.
The Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University is celebrating one hundred years, with significant contributions to research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration in Latin American Studies. Since its conception, the Center has evolved into a leading hub for academic excellence, with a broad focus on various disciplines, regions, and perspectives across Latin America.
Northern Illinois University’s Center for Latino and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) is a key hub for addressing Latinx issues and fostering academic and cultural engagement as well as research, a priority for the Center.
Standing out in Texas for its programs and services supporting Hispanic students, Baylor University has earned the status of an “Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution.” With 16% of its student body identifying as Hispanic or Latino, Baylor offers robust academic programs, such as Spanish for Heritage Speakers and a Certificate in Spanish for Health Professions, aimed at enhancing cultural and linguistic competencies.
