Furman University is announcing a new plan to give students experiences outside the classroom that will make them more prepared for careers after school. Under the Furman Advantage, the Greenville News reports (http://grnol.co/2dx2PFz) Thursday the university is guaranteeing students the chance to get internships or extra-curricular experiences that are relevant to their future careers.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Furman University is announcing a new plan to give students experiences outside the classroom that will make them more prepared for careers after school.

Under the Furman Advantage, the Greenville News reports (http://grnol.co/2dx2PFz) Thursday the university is guaranteeing students the chance to get internships or extra-curricular experiences that are relevant to their future careers.

The university will use $47 million from The Duke Endowment to build the infrastructure and networks needed to create its new program. Faculty and staff are mentoring students one-on-one. Furman is also boosting stipends for students who have internships or do research.

University officials tell the newspaper they hope to have the program fully running in a year.
