Lois Agnew
Lois Agnew has been named interim vice chancellor and provost of Syracuse University, effective July 1. Agnew, who currently serves as associate provost for academic programs, joined the Syracuse University community in 2004. Prior to her recent role as associate provost, she served as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) and associate dean of curriculum, innovation, and pedagogy. Agnew also served as interim chair of the Department of African American Studies, chair of the Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition, and director of undergraduate studies for the writing program. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Texas Christian University and a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Julio Frenk
Dr. Julio Frenk has been named UCLA’s seventh chancellor, effective January 1, 2025. He is the first Latino to lead UCLA, the nation’s most applied-to university and home to one of the largest academic health systems. Frenk has served as president of the University of Miami and dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Born in Mexico City, his experience also spans government and public service, as a national health secretary and founding director of the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico. Frenk holds a medical degree from the National University of Mexico, along with master’s degrees in public health and sociology and a joint doctorate in medical care organization and sociology from the University of Michigan.
Russell Keen
Georgia native Russell T. Keen, EdD, assumed the presidency of Augusta University (AU), effective July 1, 2024. Keen previously served as executive vice president for administration and chief of staff to the president at AU, where he held an executive leadership role since July 2015. He also held leadership roles at Georgia Southern University and worked in fundraising at the University of Georgia. From 2001 until 2015, he worked at Georgia Southern University, advancing from director of annual giving to vice president for external affairs. Keen, a first-generation college student, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University. He earned an EdD in higher education management from UGA in 2019.
Angela Chong
Angela Chong has been appointed vice president for student life at the University of Oregon. Angela is currently the associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Florida State University. Prior to Florida State, she also served as the assistant vice president for student affairs at the College of New Jersey. She has extensive management experience and has served in three cabinet-level positions, including interim vice president for student affairs at two institutions. Angela earned a bachelor of science degree in communications from Southeast Missouri State University, a master of science in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University, followed by a juris doctorate in higher education law and policy from Stetson University.
