Sunil Kumar
Sunil Kumar assumed office as the 14th president of Tufts University on July 1, 2023. President Kumar also serves as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tufts University’s School of Engineering. Kumar previously served as the 15th provost of Johns Hopkins University (JHU). Prior to his role at JHU, Kumar served as dean of the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Before joining the Booth School of Business, he spent 14 years on the faculty of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business faculty. Born in India, Kumar received a Master of Engineering degree in computer science and automation from the Indian Institute of Science, a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Mangalore University and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Stephen Perez
Dr. Steve Perez became Chico State’s 13th president on July 1, 2023, after serving as the University’s interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Prior to coming to Chico State, Perez served as interim president from January to December 2022 at San José State University. Perez was previously provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Sacramento State. Over his two decades of service to that university, he also served as associate professor, professor, assistant to the president for special projects, faculty athletics representative, interim dean for the College of Business Administration, and interim provost. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of California, San Diego, Perez received his PhD in economics from the University of California, Davis in 1994.
Mildred García
Mildred García has been appointed to serve as the 11th chancellor of the California State University. García is the first Latina appointed to oversee the CSU’s 23-campus system.García currently serves as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and previously served as president of California State University, Fullerton from 2012 to 2018 and California State University, Dominguez Hills from 2007 to 2012. Before her arrival in the CSU, García served as the CEO of Berkeley College. She received her associate degree from New York City Community College, a bachelor’s in business education from Bernard M. Baruch College and a master’s in business education from New York University. At Teachers College, Columbia University, she earned a master’s and a doctorate in higher education administration.
Anthony Culpepper
Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) has appointed Dr. Anthony Culpepper as the next permanent president of Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) beginning August 16, 2023. Dr. Cullpepper has served in the interim president role since July 2022. Before joining LACCD, Dr. Culpepper served as Executive vice president of Glendale Community College. And prior to that, he was vice provost of Faculty Affairs at Ashford University and Dean of the Colleges of Business Administration and Information Systems at Trident University, Dr. Culpepper holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Long Beach City College, a Bachelor of Science from CSU Dominguez Hills, a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and a Juris Doctor from University of West Los Angeles School of Law.
