The LCDEF’s BoardReady Institute: Essential Preparation for Aspiring Latino Directors

Hispanic Community August 2024 PREMIUM

The LCDEF‘s premiere BoardReady Institute (BRI) is a comprehensive program uniquely designed to prepare and position aspiring directors for boardroom success. There is no other programming of this scope focused on accelerating the preparation, development, and placement of highly credentialed Latinos who are aspiring directors onto the highest levels of corporate governance.

The Latino Corporate Directors Education Foundation (LCDEF) is the affiliated foundation of the Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA);  together, these institutions are committed to paving the way for the next generation of US Latina and Latino corporate directors. LCDEF’s strategic priority is to prepare, position, and grow the supply of Latino C-Suite executives who are prepared for corporate board service, and provide  research-based reports and thought leadership.

LCDEF hosts the BoardReady Institute (BRI), a comprehensive, in-person program designed to prepare and position aspiring Latino directors for corporate board service. The BRI provides in-depth training and resources focused on accelerating the preparation, development, and placement of highly credentialed Latinos onto corporate boards. The BRI is exclusive to LCDA members.

Comprehensive Curriculum

The BRI curriculum covers a wide range of topics essential for boardroom success. Originally developed with support from the KPMG Board Leadership Center, the Rock Center for Corporate Governance at Stanford Law School, Equilar, and Boardspan, the curriculum benefits from the expertise of top corporate governance professionals. LCDA’s director members and strategic search firm partners, such as Egon Zehnder, Heidrick & Struggles, and Diversified Search, also contributed to the program’s development.

Over time, the curriculum has expanded to include input from additional prestigious partners, including UC Law San Francisco’s Center for Business Law, Diligent, Spencer Stuart, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Carlyle, and AboveBoard, among others. This ensures that participants receive the most current and relevant information on corporate governance practices and boardroom dynamics.

Corporate Governance

All our programming is supported by BRI faculty who are seasoned directors and subject matter experts. Our faculty are committed to the success of program participants, leveraging their knowledge and resources of the governance landscape to enhance learning. BRI strives to go beyond the fundamentals of corporate governance, positioning participants for excellence and leadership   throughout their journey to and in the boardroom.

Personalized Coaching

A key feature of the BRI is its personalized coaching component. Each participant receives tailored guidance to develop their boardroom skills and refine their unique value proposition. Personal testimonials from seasoned directors and practical, hands-on experiences that simulate real-world board scenarios help candidates gain confidence and competence in navigating corporate governance challenges.

Networking Opportunities

The BRI facilitates extensive networking opportunities, allowing participants to connect with experienced board directors, industry leaders, and boardroom influencers. These interactions provide them with valuable insights and foster professional relationships that can support participants throughout their boardroom careers.

Impact and Reach

Since its inception, the BRI has certified over 360 LCDA Members, enhancing their board value proposition. The program’s rigorous training and comprehensive approach ensure that participants are well-prepared for board service and positioned for success in corporate governance roles. Since its inception, over 75% of aspiring director LCDA members who have landed a large corporate board seat are BRI Certified.
