At H.O., we take pride in honoring the Hispanic/Latino administrators appointed in 2025, celebrating their leadership and the impact they continue to make across higher education.

Jeanette M. Nuñez

Jeanette M. Nuñez was appointed the 7th president of her alma mater, Florida International University in June of 2025. She previously served as Florida’s Lt. Governor from 2017-2025, and in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 1018.

Alberto J. Román

On May 7, 2025, Dr. Alberto J. Román was named Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the nation’s largest community college system, serving over 194,000 students. He formerly served as President of East Los Angeles College and Interim Chancellor of LACCD.

Carlos R. Morales

Carlos Morales, Ph.D. was appointed inaugural president of Lone Star College System (LSC)-Online on July 14. He brings 30 years of experience in higher education, including his previous role president of Tarrant County College’s TCC Connect Campus president in Fort Worth.

Chris Manriquez

Chris Manriquez was appointed vice president for information technology and chief information officer at Cal State Fullerton on August 1. He brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education technology leadership, including 16 years previously at CSUF.

Andrés Acebo

Andrés Acebo was confirmed as the 13th president of New Jersey City University (NJCU) in August 2025. A first-generation college graduate, president Acebo had been serving as interim president of NJCU since 2023.

Marielena DiSantis

Dr. Marielena DeSanctis assumed the role of Chancellor of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) on October 1, 2025. A distinguished leader with more than 25 years of experience in K–12 and higher education, she previously served as President of the Community College of Denver. 

Eduardo Peñalber

Eduardo Peñalber was appointed the next president of Georgetown University, beginning his new role on July 1, 2026. Peñalver, who has led Seattle University since 2021, previously served as the dean of Cornell Law School and as a clerk to former U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
