Dec. 16, 2016, Dearborn, Mich. — Students will have the opportunity to learn how the Henry Ford College (HFC) Henry Ford II Honors Program can benefit them at The HFC Honors Program Experience on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017. This special event takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC) (Bldg. L) on the main campus. HFC will serve a continental breakfast to participants. 

This event provides students the opportunity to meet faculty, current honors students and alumni. Participants will also observe mini-dramas of actual Honors classes and hear accounts of undergraduate research recently undertaken by current students. In addition, attendees will receive information on the following:

• Full-tuition scholarship opportunities;
• A challenging academic environment;
• Faculty mentors;
• Undergraduate research opportunities;
• Directed study aboard opportunities;
• Service learning projects; 
• Enhanced transfer scholarships; and
• Transfer guidance. 

“The Honors Program provides an HFC student with the unique opportunity simultaneously to belong to a distinguished learning community and to pursue independently his or her chosen major,” said Dr. Michael Daher, director of the HFC Henry Ford II Honors Program.

Many Honors Program graduates have transferred to prestigious colleges and universities, including:
• College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit;
• Drexel University in Philadelphia;
• Eastern Michigan University (EMU) in Ypsilanti;
• Ferris State University (FSU) School of Pharmacy in Big Rapids;
• Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington, Ind.;
• Lawrence Technological University in Southfield;
• Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing;
• University of Michigan (U-M) in Ann Arbor;
• New York University in New York City;
• Texas A&M University in College Station, TX;
• The State University of New York (SUNY);
• University of Detroit Mercy (UDM);
• Connecticut College in New London, Conn.; 
• University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles (L.A.);
• Wayne State University in Detroit; 
• Albion College; and
• Western Michigan University (WMU) in Kalamazoo.

Additionally, after completing their undergraduate degree, Honors Program graduates have go on to law school, medical school, business school and various graduate programs. 

Many Honors Program graduates are the recipients of prestigious transfer scholarships, including the:
• Presidential Scholarship at Wayne State;
• Phi Theta Kappa/Community College Transfer Scholarship at U-M; 
• Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship;
• Michigan Grant at U-M;
• Regents Scholarship at EMU; 
• Jesuit Founders’ Scholarship at UDM; 
• Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship at U-M; and
• Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship at UDM.

The HFC Henry II Ford Honors Program, established in 1978, currently has an enrollment of 60 students. Those students interested in joining the Honors Program must have an overall, unweighted grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.
