“Coco” Dubbed For Kids In Peru
Father-Son Team Dubs Movie To Share With Cuzco Region Schools
The global phenomenon of Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” has been dubbed in another language, so now kids in Peru can enjoy the colorful Día de Muertos tale that shines a spotlight on Mexican culture.
“Coco” tells the story of a young boy named Miguel (played in the movie by Anthony Gonzales) meeting his ancestors in the Land of the Dead. Like other Disney•Pixar animated films, “Coco” has been translated into almost 50 languages, however, one community in the Peruvian Andes could not fully enjoy the movie until now.
Fernando and Dylan Valencia have dubbed the scenes between Miguel and the skeleton Hector (played in the movie by Gael Garcia Bernal; both characters pictured above) into their native language Quechua, the language that it spoken by more than two million people in Peru. Their goal is to make the heartwarming tale about family and legacy accessible to the schoolchildren in the Andean region.
Noticias Telemundo found that Fernando and his 8-year-old son Dylan worked on the translation and recorded the dialogue by themselves. Fernando has been showing the dubbed clips in Cuzco region schools, including one run by his mother.
Fernando and Dylan are a reminder how family can help you keep cultural traditions alive like the film portrays.
