In an effort to implement safety to its faculty, staff and students, Alamo Colleges District will offer free COVID-19 screenings
To make COVID-19 screenings for students and employees as convenient as possible, Alamo Colleges is partnering with Community Labs to offer free COVID-19 screenings at each of the colleges and the DSO beginning Monday, May 10, 2021. COVID-19 screenings provide early alerts of infections, and weekly screenings allow the district to monitor the infection rate for each of its colleges and take necessary measures if the rates fluctuate.
The screenings are part of the Alamo Colleges District planning to implement safety and mitigation practices to keep its faculty, staff and students as safe as possible. This aligns with the district’s return-to-campus plans, which will see more individuals on-site at the five college campuses and at the District Support Operations(DSO) office.
“As part of our emphasis on safety while we return to work on site, we are pleased to be able to offer quick, easy and free COVID-19 screenings to our students and employees where they work,” said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. “Regular screening will not only benefit each individual’s personal sense of safety, but the overall sense of security all our students and employees feel where they learn, teach or work,” he added.
“Community Labs is glad to be a part of the Alamo Colleges District’s plan to safely return more students to on-campus learning. By screening students and staff weekly and delivering results within 24 hours, we will be able to provide the assurance they need to continue to scale on-campus enrollment,” said Sal Webber, president, Community Labs.
The screening is designed to be as quick and easy as possible to encourage employees and students to be screened regularly. The test is a painless, self-administered nose swab that only takes about a minute. Individuals are encouraged to make an appointment to save time, but walk-ins are accepted at all locations during operating hours.
Students and employees will need to set up an account on the website below to schedule an appointment. They also can log in to their account anytime to view appointments, reschedule or cancel and to see test results, which will be available within 24 hours. No insurance is required. The sites are for screening individuals with no symptoms. If an individual has any symptoms that could be COVID-19, they should not go to be screened. Screening locations, hours and details are available at www.alamo.edu/COVID-Testing.
